THE CHIEF of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said he will support the policeman who is facing homicide charges in court for shooting dead a man who ran amok in barangay Bacayan last Dec. 23.
Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe said PO2 Rodel Abejuela acted in the line of duty.
He said he referred the policeman’s case to the Police Regional Office of the Visayas legal team for assistance.
Abejuela shot dead 37-year-old Jose Ligario who tried to stab him with a blade.
Buenafe said dedicated policemen face charges while performing their jobs and that this should not discourage them from working harder.
Abejuela shot dead Ligario who was chasing a woman, Thelma Omboy, with a bladed weapon.
Omboy was pacifying Ligario and her brother Joel Valencia, whom Ligario earlier threatened.
Omboy said the policeman arrived and tried to pacify Ligario, but the man turned his ire on the policeman and attacked him with a gaff.
Omboy said the policeman shot the victim when he sensed that his life was in danger.
Abejuela is out on P40,000 bail. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO ARAGON
