LEGAZPI CITY –– Electricity was expected to be restored Thursday afternoon in at least two key areas in Albay over a week after Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) hit the Bicol region as repair works on toppled transmission lines went on full gear, the Albay Power Energy Corp (APEC) said.
Pat Guttierez, APEC spokesperson, said power would resume at 3 p.m. Thursday in Legazpi City but would cover only 11 urban villages where the transmission lines and electric poles were not destroyed by Tisoy.
Guttierez said in a phone interview that these villages are in the city’s business district.
“We are doing our best to restore power in the other areas by the end of the month,” Guttierez said.
On Wednesday, APEC restored electricity in some areas in Tabaco City, the business center in Albay’s first district.
Restoration work went on full gear to replace 1,373 poles toppled by Tisoy, and repair of 722 leaning poles.
As of Thursday, 272 poles had been replaced and 142 leaning posts fixed, she said.
Meanwhile, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) bared that power had been restored in Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
Nilda Somera, NGCP spokesperson, said Camarines Sur had been energized except for the Rinconada District, which covers the towns of Bato, Bula, Buhi, Nabua, Baao, Balatan, and Iriga City, where repair works had been hampered by the flood.
Somera, in a phone interview, said the restoration of NGCP transmission facilities were ongoing in Albay and Sorsogon.
She said power restoration in these areas could be completed by the end of December.
