MMDA to malls: Manage Edsa entry points to curb holiday traffic

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday appealed to the management of malls along Edsa  to seal its entrances facing the major thoroughfare  to help ease the traffic.

MMDA – Edsa traffic chief Bong Nebrija said that vehicles trying to enter malls and queueing for parking spaces contribute to the worsening traffic along Edsa.

Napakatraffic sa loob ng mall, ‘yung queueing ng parking nila, nag-i-spill over sa Edsa,” Nebrija said in an interview on dzMM.

Nebrija appealed to mall operators to also manage the traffic inside their properties and close off entrances if inner mall roads are already jam-packed.

In a bid to ease vehicular traffic, especially during the Christmas holidays, the MMDA and mall operators have agreed to adjust the start of mall operating hours to 11 a.m. from the usual 10 a.m.
