Cash assistance, food packs pour for ‘Tisoy’ survivors in Albay

DARAGA, Albay –– The victims of Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) in this town in Albay province received cash assistance from government agencies, Senator Bong Go and Ako Bicol Partylist Saturday.

Go visited hundreds of typhoon victims at this town’s covered court, and handed over food packs. Go was with action stars Cesar Montano and Philip Salvador.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) also gave P20,000 cash assistance to 150 residents whose homes were damaged.

NHA Bicol manager Albert Perfecto said “the recipients were properly identified and validated. They will be monitored for use for the reconstruction of their houses. If they don’t comply, there will be no more assistance.”

P5,000-cash assistance was also given by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Teotima Loma, 72, a resident of San Vicente village, and Andres Nocena, 82, of Ibaugan village, both said the assistance was a big help since they have no sources of income.

Mayor Victor Perete said 8,000 families were affected in his town.

Aside from lack of power, the residents are also experiencing water shortage days after Tisoy hit the Bicol region on Monday and Tuesday./lzb
