Fisherman ‘drowns’ in Taal Lake
SAN PEDRO CITY –– Search-and-rescue operations continued Saturday for a fisherman, who went missing in Taal Lake in Talisay town in Batangas province.
A police report tagged as a “drowning incident” identified the victim as Wilmar Calibo.
Talisay police chief Captain Aldrin Jay Baysa said in a phone interview that Calibo sailed into the deep portion of the lake to test his fishing net in Barangay Poblacion 4 around 7 p.m. Friday.
A witness said Calibo jumped off his fishing boat but never made it back to the water surface.
The other fishermen said the victim used to be a “good swimmer” but had a few drinks the night before he ventured out into the lake, Baysa said.
