MANILA, Philippines — Eleven incidents, including crime and traffic, were recorded in Metro Manila during the holding of the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from Nov. 25 to Dec. 4, police said on Thursday.
In a conference, police identified three incidents involving delegates including one robbery incident from Manila Police District (MPD) and two traffic incidents from Eastern Police District (EPD).
Meanwhile, 11 other traffic incidents were recorded in Metro Manila which include six from EPD, one from Southern Police District and one from Quezon City Police District.
MPD spokesman Lt. Col. Carlo Manuel said the incidents were already solved by police officers, noting that so far SEA Games were generally peaceful.
“Yung mga merong mga isolated cases na nabigyan naman ng actions kaya sinasabi ko generally peaceful. There is an incident but not main incident,” Manuel told INQUIRER.net in an interview.
(There are some isolated cases that were acted upon, that is why it is generally peaceful.)
Manuel said they are conducting conferences everyday to evaluate security protocols during SEA Games.
MPD chief Brig. Gen. Bernabe Balba vowed that the police will tighten its safety assessment during the entire conduct of the games.
“We will continue with risk assessment. We will be looking after all actionable items and issues and current updates on ongoing SEA Games,” Balba said during the conference.
This year’s SEA Games, hosted by the Philippines, will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
