LEGAZPI CITY –– Classes in Camarines Sur and Naga City resumed Wednesday two days after Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) hit the Bicol region.
Governor Miguel Luis Villafuerte lifted the class suspensions Wednesday evening after the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol has recorded at least P904 million of damage to school properties due to Tisoy.
The agency’s Rapid Assessment of Damages Report (Radar), said the typhoon destroyed 240 classrooms, while 543 classrooms were damaged, most of which were in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon, and the cities of Sorsogon and Legazpi.
Radar also recorded 5,933 school furniture, 24,923 learning materials, and 893 computer equipment that were damaged by the typhoon.
DepEd Regional Director Gilbert Sadsad said the amount might still rise as the department’s Radar continued to check school properties in other areas hit by the typhoon.
