LEGAZPI CITY –– Typhoon “Tisoy” (international name: Kammuri) has damaged some P2.5 billion worth in agriculture, infrastructure, and social services in Albay.
Cedric Daep, head of Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, said they were crafting the rehabilitation plan for the province.
On Wednesday, the provincial board placed the whole province under a state of calamity.
In the initial report, as of noon today, the agriculture sector recorded P3.9 million worth of damage in livestock, fisheries, and crops, which include rice, corn, and vegetables.
At least P2.3 million was also lost in infrastructure and social services.
Strong winds and heavy rains also left 34,560 houses partially damaged while 24,766 were destroyed.
Daep said the province would provide families with housing materials to rebuild their houses.
Schools
Gilbert Sadsad, director of the Department of Education (DepEd) Bicol, said in a report that Tisoy also left P900 million worth of damage in school infrastructure in Bicol.
At least 240 classrooms were destroyed, while 543 were damaged in different schools.
A total of 5,933 school furniture and 24,923 learning materials were also damaged.
Mayflor Marie Jumamil, information officer of DepEd Bicol, said some schools would put up temporary learning spaces (TLS) to accommodate classes.
“The central office has funding for TLS, we just need to send a request,” she said.
