LEGAZPI CITY –– The provincial board of Albay has declared a state of calamity on Wednesday after Typhoon “Tisoy” battered the province late Monday to early morning Tuesday.
Board Member Joseph Philip Lee, head of the Committee on Crisis and Emergency Management, said the declaration would allow local governments to use their calamity funds to assist the affected residents.
Tisoy forced 47,854 families or 185,650 individuals to evacuate due to the threat of flash floods, lahar, and landslide in the province.
Cedric Daep, head of Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office, said some of the residents whose homes were destroyed, stayed in the evacuation centers.
Some towns in the third district of the province were also still isolated due to flooding.
