TACLOBAN CITY –– Samar Vice Governor Reynolds Michael Tan formally assumed his post as the new governor of Samar on December 2.
Tan took his oath before Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.
Board Member Angelica Gomez Teodoro took over as vice governor of the province.
Tan assumed as governor of Samar after his mother, Milagrosa, died of cardiac arrest at St. Luke’s Hospital on November 30.
In a previous interview, the new governor, who ran under the administration’s PDP-Laban, said his priorities include the improvement of basic and health services, construction of roads, especially in remote villages, and promotion of Samar as a tourist destination.
The family of the new governor has ruled the province for more than two decades now.
His sister, Sharee Ann, is a congresswoman of Samar’s second district, while his older brother, Stephen James, was once the vice governor of the province.
The new vice governor is a neophyte in the field of politics. Teodoro was elected board member representing Samar’s first district in the last elections.
Her husband, Erwin, also ran for mayor of Talalora town, also in Samar, but lost.
Teodoro was selected as the new vice governor after she garnered the highest number of votes among the provincial board members.
She belongs to the Liberal Party, which will select her replacement in the provincial board.
