MANILA, Philippines — At least 11 people died as Typhoon Tisoy (international name: Kammuri) ripped through Luzon, collected government reports said Wednesday.

Five people were recorded dead in Bicol region, according to a police regional report.

In Mimaropa region, five people perished at the height of the typhoon. Three were pinned by fallen trees while two others suffered a heart attack.

A man died in Ormoc City after a tree fell over him. He suffered severe head injuries, the regional office of civil defense said.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said there are 458,020 persons taking shelter at evacuation centers, while there are 37,388 displaced persons staying with their families or friends.

NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said they have yet to release an official death toll.

“We are still confirming the identities or cause of death… We are verifying the details because they are eligible for financial assistance,” Timbal told Radyo Inquirer.

Because the weather has improved, he said the NDRRMC has already deployed teams on the ground to assess the situation.
