MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Tisoy (internationally known as Kammuri) has weakened into a severe tropical storm early Wednesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Tisoy was spotted at 275 kilometers west northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro or 195 km west southwest of Subic, Zambales at 4 a.m., according to the 5 a.m. bulletin of the state weather bureau.
It was moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center and gusts of up to 125 kph.
The weather disturbance is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Wednesday night and Thursday morning and is forecast to continuously weaken due to the northeast monsoon.
Pagasa said moderate with occasional heavy rains may prevail over Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora province.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2, which means winds of more than 61 kph up to 120 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours, remains hoisted in these areas:
- Southern Zambales (Castillejos, Olongapo City, San Antonio, San Felipe, San Marcelino, San Narciso, Subic)
- Bataan
- Western Cavite (Alfonso, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Magallanes, Maragondon, Ternate)
- Western Batangas (Calaca, Balayan, Tuy, Calatagan, Lian, Nasugbu)
- Northwestern Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island (Abra de Ilog, Looc, Lubang, Mamburao, Paluan)
Signal No. 1, which means winds of 30 to 60 kph may be experienced in at least 36 hours or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours, is up in the following areas:
- Metro Manila
- Western Quezon (Dolores, Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, San Antonio)
- Laguna
- Rizal
- The rest of Batangas
- The rest of Cavite
- Northern Palawan including Calamian Islands (El Nido, Coron, Busuanga, Culion, Linapacan)
- Southwestern Bulacan (Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong, Malolos City, Bulakan, Obando, Meycauayan City, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas, Guiguinto, Plaridel, Pulilan, Baliuag, Bustos, Pandi, Sta. Maria, San Jose Del Monte City)
- Western Pampanga (Mabalacat City, Angeles City, Porac, Floridablanca, Lubao, Guagua, Sta. Rita, Bacolor, San Fernando City, Sto. Tomas, Minalin, Macabebe, Sasmuan, Masantol, Apalit, San Simon)
- Western Tarlac (Mayantoc, San Jose, Capas, Bamban)

Aside from those still under TCWS, gusty conditions associated with the northeast monsoon may still be experienced in other parts of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa, especially in coastal and mountainous areas, according to Pagasa.
