‘Hay nako’: Manila refutes fake class suspension post

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Tisoy brought not only rains and strong winds but also fake class suspension posts on social media.

The Manila City Hall, for one, had to clarify on Tuesday night that a class suspension post circulating on social media was fake.

The fake announcement, supposedly posted on social media by Mayor Isko Moreno, states that classes in all levels, both public and private, in the city are suspended for Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Not true, according to the Manila Public Information Office (PIO).

The PIO pointed out that a part of the text of the supposed class suspension announcement had a different font style than the rest of the text.

PIO chief Julius Leonen said that the city government had not issued any class suspension announcements for Dec. 4 as of Tuesday, 9 p.m.

The clarification on Twitter was captioned by the two words: “Hay nako.”

But later in the evening, Manila would eventually suspend Wednesday classes from preschool to grade school.

As of posting time, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was still raised over Metro Manila.
