MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the postponement of the May 2020 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to December 2022.
Duterte signed Republic Act 11462 on Tuesday in Malacañang before lawmakers and members of the Cabinet.
Under the new law, the village elections after the December 2022 vote will subsequently take place on the first Monday of December 2025 and every three years thereafter.
This is the third time that the barangay and SK polls are being postponed during Duterte’s term.
The village elections originally scheduled for May 2016 were suspended twice before it was finally held in May 2018.
During his State of the Nation Address in July, Duterte made another push for the postponement of the 2020 barangay and SK polls.
