MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Tisoy weakened further and is now off the coast of Occidental Mindoro, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Tuesday afternoon.
According to its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said Tisoy was located 110 kilometers northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro with maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 200 kph as of 4 p.m.
Tisoy is moving westward at the speed of 25 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 is raised over Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, and Batangas.
Signal No. 2, meanwhile, is raised over Romblon, Camarines Norte, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Rizal, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Zambales, Marinduque, Cavite, and Laguna, northern portion of Camarines Sur, southern Nueva Ecija, southern Aurora, and Calamian Islands.
Signal No. 1 is raised over the southern portion of Quirino, the rest of Aurora, the northern portion of Palawan, the rest of Camarines Sur, Cuyo Islands, Pangasinan, the southern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, Burias Island, rest of Nueva Ecija, Northern Aklan, and northern Antique.
Pagasa said frequent to continuous heavy, with isolated intense rains, are expected in Quezon and Rizal between late Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, occasional to frequent heavy rains are expected over Mindoro Provinces, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, rest of CALABARZON, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Marinduque, and Romblon while intermittent heavy rains are expected over Calamian Islands.
Pagasa has also lifted TCWS over Masbate including Ticao Island, Benguet, La Union, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Capiz, Iloilo, southern Isabela and the rest of Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aklan, Samar, Northern Samar and Antique.
Storm surge
Pagasa also warned of storm surge in some areas of the country.
The state weather bureau said storm surge of up to three meters in height may occur in coastal areas in Marinduque, Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, Cavite, and Batangas.
