MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said on Monday it would keep the power on in areas that are unaffected by Typhoon Tisoy (internationally known as Kimmuri).
Meralco said it was continuously monitoring the typhoon in anticipation that some areas serviced by their franchise might be affected.
“Please note that WE WILL NOT shut off power to any unaffected area,” Meralco said in a Facebook post.
As of 1 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tisoy was spotted 140 km east northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of up to 185 kph.
It is forecasted to make landfall over Catanduanes, Albay or Sorsogon between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
Signal No. 3 was raised over Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, the southern portion of Camarines Norte, Masbate, Romblon, the southern portion of Quezon, Northern Samar, the northern portion of Eastern Samar, and the northern portion of Samar province.
