Coast Guard suspends sea travel in areas affected by Typhoon Tisoy

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard  (PCG) has suspended sea travel in several areas as Typhoon Tisoy (Kammuri) threatens to batter Luzon with its heavy rains and strong winds.

PCG spokesperson Capt. Arman Balilo on Monday said they have placed all their units on heightened alert due to the typhoon.

All maritime activities were suspended in areas with public storm warning signals.

“The operations of 1,030 rolling cargoes, 51 motorbancas, and 45 vessels are temporarily suspended, while 125 vessels and 19 motorbancas are taking shelter due to weather condition,” he said in a statement.

As of 6 a.m., a total of 5,327 stranded passengers were recorded in Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas, Bicol and Eastern Visayas.

Roro (roll on, roll off) vessels from Caticlan to Roxas Mindoro; Caticlan to Bulalacao; Oriental Mindoro, Caticlan to Batangas Port and vice versa trips were cancelled.

Motorbanca operations from Caticlan to Sta. Fe, Looc and San Jose, Rombon and vice versa were also cancelled.

Meanwhile, trips of passenger motorbanca and other watercraft plying the Caticlan to Cagban Jetty Port and vice versa were only allowed to travel from sunrise to sunset.

All scheduled sea travels in Matnog, Sorosogon were also cancelled since Sunday. A Cebu-bound vessel in North Port in Manila was also called off.
