7 Laguna towns suspend classes due to ‘Tisoy’

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna, Philippines — Classes were suspended seven towns in Laguna province as authorities braced for coming of Typhoon Tisoy (internationally known as Kammuri).

A three-day class suspension, from Dec. 2 to 4, was declared in the towns of Santa Cruz and Majayjay, while classes would be suspended in Liliw from Dec. 2 to 3.

Classes in Victoria, Los Baños, Famy, and Pila would be suspended on Dec. 2.

In a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, Laguna disaster response chief Aldwin Cejo said the class suspensions covered all levels, both in public and private schools.

He said the province had not yet felt the effects of the typhoon, as of Sunday, except for light rainfall in some parts.

Cejo said the class suspensions were a preemptive measure by the local governments in anticipation of a strong weather disturbance.

Authorities were also closely monitoring flood and landslide-prone areas to assess if there would be a need to implement preemptive evacuations.
