All set for 1st St. Alphonsus Run on July 10

LAPU-LAPU City Councilor Harry Radaza, Cheryl Zoleta-Ouano and the rest of batch ‘87 of the St. Alphonsus Catholic School (SACS) High School will spearhead the 1st Alphonsian Run scheduled this July 10 starting at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.

The fun run, which will have 3-, 6- and 15-kilometer categories, aims to help send less fortunate children to school through SACS’ scholarship program. The lucky scholars will be given P20,000 scholarship grant from Batch ’87 of SACS.

It will be the second major race to be held in Lapu-Lapu City this year after the 2nd Great Lapu-Lapu Run.

Radaza, also the Lapu-Lapu City Sports and Tourism chairman, said he is very glad that running has picked up in the city.

“I want this sport to become a trend to the youth because of its health benefits,” said Radaza during yesterday’s launching at the SACS campus in Lapu-Lapu City.

Radaza is responsible for the barangay-based running events held every two weeks in the city.

Hired to handle the technical side of the SACS-led run is Joel Baring. He said he is targeting 3,000 runners, including students of SACS.

Winners in the 15k race will get P6,500 while 6k winners will receive P5,500.

Registration fee for the 6k and 3k categories is pegged at P300 while P350 is set for the 15k.

Registration areas are at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall, RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu, Holiday Gym and Spa, PSC Office, Petron Gasoline Station Pusok Branch, KP Lables and Custom Apparel, Habagat SM City Cebu, Gaisano Grand Mall and at the SACS Lapu-Lapu Campus. CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
