MANILA, Philippines — As he is still awaiting the results of his poll protest against Vice President Leni Robredo, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that he was not interested in her ouster.
Marcos, son of late president Ferdinand Marcos, added that for him, he does not consider Robredo as an enemy at all.
“Well, I’m not interested in her ouster. I’m more interested in the correct results coming out of the PET (Presidential Electoral Tribunal),” Marcos said during the “In Focus” forum in Quezon City on Saturday when asked if he will “pressure” PET to release its decision.
“She’s not the enemy, as far as I’m concerned,” he said of Robredo.
The real enemy, according to Marcos, are “those behind her who are endorsing this entire concept that cheating legitimizes your position.”
“I want to contest that,” he added.
Marcos filed his electoral protest against Robredo in 2016 to contest the results of the vice presidency position in the national polls.
In October, the Supreme Court (SC), sitting in as the PET, voted 11-2 to defer the decision whether or not it will dismiss or proceed with the poll protest.
Answering the question that was asked of him, Marcos said that it was best for lawyers to explain that there are procedures to be followed.
“And Justice Caguioa, his decisions, whatever they are, whether we like them or not, wala naman tayong magawa (we can’t do anything about it),” Marcos added, referring to SC Associate Justice Alfred Benjamin Caguioa who dissented from the majority justices to allow the release of the report.
After Caguioa, who was the ponente or member-in-charge of the case. voted to dissent, the SC en banc raffled the case.
Associate Justice Marvic Leonen is now in charge of the VP poll protest.
