MANILA, Philippines — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has reminded all telecommunication companies to ensure continuous service in the areas expected to be hit by Typhoon Kammuri.
In a memorandum issued by NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba on Friday, all telco companies were directed to make sure that there are sufficient numbers of technical and support personnel.
The agency also reminded that there should be standby generators that have extra fuel, tools, and spare equipment.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Typhoon Kammuri is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday, coinciding with the opening day of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The typhoon was also forecasted to hit bring strong rains over Southern and Central Luzon, as well as Metro Manila.
With this, the companies were also directed to preposition all mobile cell sites in the affected areas, the NTC said, adding that these should also be “made ready for deployment anytime.”
The memorandum also reminded the companies of their responsibility to submit reports to the NTC, which includes the status of their respective networks and facilities.
All companies were also directed to closely monitor the Pagasa tropical cyclone advisory for updates on the typhoon, as well as to coordinate with NTC focal person for the SEA Games, director Jovita Chongco.
