TOLEDO City — Fernando Otic of Mandaue City beat Jaime Barcelona of Bukidnon by unanimous decision Thursday night in their 10-round main event fight of the “Kombate sa Toledo” at the Toledo Barba Sports Complex.
The two superfeatherweights traded power shots in the first four rounds but got sloppy in the middle. Otic however, piled enough points to win on all three judges’ scorecards, 99-90, 98-91, 98-91.
Marjohn Yap of Cagayan de Oro unloaded a well-timed right straight to win by third round TKO over Gedeon Amba of Mandaue City while Toledo pride Ryan Canillas pummeled Sherwin Caday of Mandaue City to win by unanimous decision after four rounds.
Canillas came out with sledgehammer hooks and scored knockdowns in the first and second rounds and kept Caday on the defensive through the entire fight. The scores, 40-34, 39-35, 39-35.
Arjan Canillas also of Toledo City and Ryan Maano of Mandaue City fought to a majority draw in an entertaining four-round brawl while Melvin Gumban of Negros Occidental outlasted Robert Awetin of Bohol in a bruising six round bout to win by unanimous decision: 59-56, 59-55 and 58-56.
Lubert Bayo of Mandaue City won by unanimous decision over Jicky Gaco of Boljoon, Cebu after six hard-fought rounds while Mark Acub of Iloilo won by second-round TKO over Keiver Gonzaga of Talisay City in the first bout of the evening.
Among those who watched the fight were former world strawweight champ Katsunari Takayama, WBO interim Asia-Pacific superbantamweight champ Kenichi Yamaguchi, OPBF flyweight champ Rocky Fuentes, PABA superbantamweight champ Larry ‘Bon Jovi’ Canillas and new Philippine junior flyweight champ Jerson Mancio.
