LEGAZPI CITY –– Classes in all levels in Albay, both public and private, will be suspended on Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 2, 3) as a preemptive measure after Typhoon “Tisoy” (Kammuri) enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday, the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said on Friday.
In an emergency meeting Friday, Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara, PDRRMC chair, announced that the suspension of classes in all levels on Monday and Tuesday is in anticipation of moderate to heavy rains that would hit Bicol as forecast by the Philippine weather bureau.
“This is a disaster mitigation measure that would prevent risks to health, safety, and welfare of the public,” Bichara said.
The governor also plans to suspend work in both public and private offices and establishments on Monday due to stormy weather.
The PDRRMC also advised local disaster councils to be on heightened alert for possible flooding, lahar, and mudflows, including landslide brought by moderate to heavy rains.
Local disaster councils were also advised to review their local risk reduction plans on the flood, wind, landslide, lahar, and coastal flooding, as well as the corresponding vulnerable populations for disaster avoidance./lzb
