MANILA, Philippines — Upon the instruction of President Rodrigo Duterte, at least 10,000 tickets for certain sports events and closing ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will be given away for free.
This was announced Friday by Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) chair and Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano after a series of snafus hounded the initial part of the country’s hosting of the biennial regional meet.
“We will release 10,000 tickets to the public,” Cayetano told reporters in an interview after the bicameral conference committee meeting on the proposed 2020 national budget in Makati City.
“Aside from the 10,000, a few thousands of tickets [more] to the LGUs (local government units) hosting the SEA Games,” he added.
Cayetano said tickets for the games that are not yet sold-out will be given away for free.
“So far, ang sold-out or halos sold-out na is (the sold-out or almost sold-out are) basketball and volleyball and football where the Philippine team is playing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cayetano said, LGUs will distribute free tickets for sports events.
As for free tickets to the SEA Games closing rites, Cayetano said there will be designated ticketing outlets, which locations will be announced later by Phisgoc.
“There are non-ticketed sports, which are open to the public and there are no complimentary tickets due to full capacity,” he said.
“’Yung full capacity, ‘yun po ‘yung sinasabi namin na na-sold out na,” he added.
(Those full capacity, those are the sold-out games that I’ve mentioned).
