2 killed, 11 hurt in Misamis Oriental grenade blast

MANILA, Philippines — A police officer died while 11 others were injured after a grenade exploded at a school in Misamis Oriental on Thursday morning.

An initial report from Police Regional Office 10 identified the fatality as Police Senior Master Sergeant Jason Magno; while the 11 wounded include Police Senior Master Sergeant Alice Balido.

According to police, an unidentified man threw the grenade at a school in the municipality of Initao around 11:20 a.m. and that the suspect was eventually shot dead by responding authorities.

Meanwhile, all victims were rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital where Magno died while undergoing treatment.

Members of Initao Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal responded to the incident.
