House chided for resolution on Duterte Youth rep

MANILA, Philippines — Poll watchdog Kontra Daya has chided the House of Representatives for its resolution asking the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to issue a certificate of proclamation to Duterte Youth party list group despite unresolved issues concerning its nominees.

Kontra Daya convener Danilo Arao urged Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano to focus his energies instead on the Southeast Asian Games where he chairs the organizing committee.

The Comelec First Division had already disqualified Duterte Youth’s first nominee Ronald Cardema for being overage. Cardema meanwhile insists his wife, Ducielle Marie Suarez, can take his place. —Jovic Yee
