Social services get biggest slice in QC budget

MANILA, Philippines — Social services get the biggest slice in Quezon City’s 2020 budget—veering away from the past practice of putting premium on infrastructure.

The Quezon City Council has approved the city’s P27.8-billion budget for 2020, a 23-percent increase from the 2019 budget of P21.5 billion.

Of this, social services got the lion’s share with P12.3 billion, or 44 percent of the total budget.

According to the Office of the Mayor, this amount is a 32-percent increase from last year’s P8.4-billion budget for social services.

“We are balancing between growth of the city and the welfare of our people. We want to improve the lives of our people, we need to give back to them by putting the bulk of the budget on SSDD,” said Assistant City Administrator for Finance Don Javillonar. —Mariejo S. Ramos
