TAGBILARAN CITY –– The Tagbilaran City government has dangled a cash reward for anyone who can give information against those who dump their garbage anywhere.
In his post on Facebook, City Mayor John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II said he was willing to give a P3,000-reward to informants who could present “hard evidence” such as photographs and videos.
The “Premyo Sa Basura (Prize in Garbage)” program, he said, was intended to encourage the public to keep the city clean while its dump remains closed.
The program started on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and will run until November 30.
“The report is treated confidential,” Yap said.
He said those who want to report could send him a message through his Facebook account.
The garbage collection was stopped on November 20 after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued a cease-and-desist order against the city government for operating an open dum.
The open dump is strictly prohibited under Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Even though trash pickup resumed on Monday, November 25, some unsegregated garbage was not collected by the city’s sanitation crews.
Yap tapped the help of barangay officials to make sure cleanliness and proper sanitation are observed in their respective areas.
