MANILA, Philippines — A Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer was shot dead in front of the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa on Wednesday morning.

A report from BuCor spokesman Maj. Alberto Tapiru identified the victim as CO1 Porferio Bergula, assigned at the Medium Security Compound.

Initial investigation showed that Bergula was near a restaurant some 400 meters away from the entrance gate of NBP when two motorcycle-riding men shot him at 10 a.m.

Bergula was rushed to the nearest hospital where he later died.
