BREAKING: Corrections officer shot dead in front of Bilibid

MANILA, Philippines — A Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officer was shot dead in front of the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa on Wednesday morning.

A report from BuCor spokesman Maj. Alberto Tapiru identified the victim as CO1 Porferio Bergula, assigned at the Medium Security Compound.

Initial investigation showed that Bergula was near a restaurant some 400 meters away from the entrance gate of NBP when two motorcycle-riding men shot him at 10 a.m.

Bergula was rushed to the nearest hospital where he later died.

Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind the attack on Bergula.
