In a Twitter post, Meralco said that the yellow alert was raised at 9:01 a.m., and will be effective until 8 p.m.
The yellow alert was raised due to insufficient operating reserve brought about by power plant outages, Meralco said.
According to the Department of Energy (DOE), a yellow alert is usually raised when a grid’s reserve power—the difference between supply and demand—is below the required level.
A yellow alert, however, does not necessarily lead to power outages, the DOE added.
