DENR-7 sets activities for Environment Month

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas (DENR-7) leads the environment month celebration with various in-house activities with the theme “Forests: Nature at your service.”

The activities kicked off with “Linis Opisina,” a whole-day cleanup activity in all DENR offices in the region. It will be followed by an orientation on residential free patent from June 3 to 4, opening of sports fest on June 6, film shooting and video documentation on the DENR-7’s success stories in barangay Nug-as, Alcoy town in southern Cebu, Apo Island in Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

On June 10, DENR will celebrate its anniversary with an open house, exhibit, presentation of Mutya ng Kalikasan, Pinoy games and bingo.

Emission testing of government vehicles will be done on June 15 and 16 along a the group discussion on the designation of Butuanon River as water quality management area. The mangrove tree planting and coastal cleanup will be held in Olango Island on June 21 and the roadside emission and CFC testing in strategic streets in Metro Cebu on June 22 and 23.

There will also be a mine tour with the Apo Cement Corp. in Naga City in southern Cebu on June 23 and a Butuanon River cleanup on June 24 as well as the presentation of the NGP at the Regional Development Council.

On June 25, DENR-7 will launch the National Greening Program (NGP) in barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City in partnership with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Metro Cebu Water District and various national government agencies.

The NGP aims to plant 2.816 million seedlings of agro-forestry, native and indigenous species in the Central Visayas, according to DENR-7.

On June 28, the Environmental Management Bureau in Central Visayas will host an Environmental Congress and a coronation night of Mutya ng Kalikasan on June 29.

The celebration will culminate with the giving of awards and recognition of outstanding DENR officials and employees, DENR retirees, sports fest competition winners and partners.
