CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, San Pampanga, Philippines—Two men drowned while swimming off the coast of Baler Bay in the capital town of Baler in Aurora province on Thursday, police said.

The police identified the fatalities as Crisostomo Salvosa and Christopher Baguilan.

Salvosa, 57, was a missionary pastor while Baguilan, 33, was a sales engineer. Both were residents of Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.

The wife of Baguilan, identified as Ana, was rescued. Some foreigners who were with the group have been confirmed to be safe, said Supt. Ervin Gumban, provincial police director.

They went swimming in the part of Barangay Dikasalarin. Baler Bay faces the Pacific Ocean. “Residents said they advised the group not to swim because the waves were tall. The weather’s like there’s a storm,” Gumban said by phone.
