Radio broadcaster Raffy Tulfo found himself again in social media’s top trending topics, after netizens criticized him for publicly shaming a 55-year-old public school teacher in his radio program and pressuring her to quit her job and give up her license.
In a recent episode of his show, “Raffy Tulfo in Action,” a grandmother and two parents complained against Grade 2 teacher Melita Limjuco, who allegedly maltreated their child.
In a statement on Saturday, the Department of Education (DepEd) said they were investigating the incident. “Rest assured that this case is being handled by DepEd regional and division offices already,” the DepEd said.
In a CCTV footage, Limjuco can be seen telling the student to sit outside the classroom as punishment for not bringing his report card.
The student sat outside for one whole period, which the grandmother said must have humiliated the child.
“Ayaw ko namang ipakulong siya,” the student’s mother, Rosemil Edroso, told Tulfo when asked what kind of punishment she wanted the teacher to get. “Magpahinga na lang siya. Mawalan siya ng lisensiya.”
In a phone call, Tulfo asked Limjuco if she would rather face charges of child abuse in court or have her license revoked.
“Dito sa mabilisang kaso, sa child abuse dito ka namin yayariin… Yayariin ka talaga namin,” Tulfo told the teacher.
