The Commuters of the Philippines scored the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Saturday for installing directional signages that it described as hard to read.
The group’s founder, Julius Dalay, is at the center of a debate on the aesthetics and design elements of train station signages.
Why is this important? “Because [coherent standards] breed familiarity,” Dalay said.
“Aside from direction, they also allow those who cannot read or write to understand where they are, if they see certain symbols and signs.”
The debate raged after the LRTA installed the new backlit violet signages that some commuters condemned as an eyesore that is akin to a beauty parlor sign.—KRIXIA SUBINGSUBING
