MANILA, Philippines—With 2012 just two days away, some P20,000 worth of confiscated illegal firecrackers were destroyed at the headquarters of the Quezon City Police District in Camp Karingal.
The QCPD decided to burn the confiscated pyrotechnics as these were deemed below standard.
Among the destroyed firecrackers were powerful ones like “pla-pla,” “Goodbye Philippines,” and “bawang.”
The items were confiscated in separate operations by the QCPD’s 12 stations in different areas in Quezon City on orders of district director Chief Superintendent George Regis.
Regis said the QCPD intensified operations against such dangerous firecrackers to ensure the community’s safety and lessen casualties during the New Year’s Eve revelry.
According to deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Arrazad Subong, some merchants selling these firecrackers were not aware which ones are prohibited.
Subung added that the police’s operations to confiscate illegal firecrackers will continue as the country prepares to welcome the New Year.
