Duterte vows clean, honest 2022 presidential elections

MANILA, Philippines – More than two years before the end of his term, President Rodrigo Duterte has assured the public of a fair and honest 2022 presidential elections which will determine his successor.

Speaking at the inauguration of a power plant in Maasim, Sarangani, Duterte assured that even his political allies and friends will not be able to take advantage of the elections.

“It’s too far away to be speculating or talking about it but I’m on my way out. What can I assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that it will be a clean election during my time,” Duterte said.

“I will not allow anybody, friend or foe, (in) alliance with us or on the other side, it will be equal treatment for all,” he added.

Duterte also vowed not to enter into “any alliances that may derail the elections.”

Among those rumored to be gunning for the presidency is Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who led the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago that endorsed nine of the 12 winning senatorial candidates in the May 2019 midterm elections.

Duterte – Carpio has denied that she’s keen on the presidency.

She, however, said that she would seek divine guidance before making a decision on whether or not to seek the highest post in the land.

She even gave set a deadline for her decision.

The President has repeatedly warned his daughter against following in his footsteps because of the “sacrifices” and “insults” she may have to face.

Opposition leader and Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo also hinted at seeking the presidency in 2022.
