UPLB footbridge destroyed by Typhoon Milenyo reopens

MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen years after it was destroyed by Typhoon Milenyo, the footbridge in the University of the Philippines-Los Baños at the Math Building and Engineering area was reopened—and now with a new look.

What used to be a footbridge is now a two-lane concrete 60-meter fully usable bridge and was reopened last November 20.

It connects Victoria Ela St., which was formerly known as Silangan St., and Pili Drive and has a segregated lane for bicycle and pedestrian, according to a UPLB press release.

UPLB Chancellor Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. said the bridge will not only benefit students by making the campus more accessible, but it would also help motorists by improving traffic flow.

The bridge was formally opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Sanchez, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar and UP President Danilo Concepcion.
