MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has started the installation of new airconditioning units (ACU) in Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) train coaches as part of the agency’s line rehabilitation project.

In a Twitter post, the DOTr said the installation of 33 new ACUs started on Thursday night.

A total of 120 brand new ACUs which cost a total of P167 million were purchased by Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, the project’s contractor.

It is part of the DOTr’s P18-billion MRT-3 rehabilitation program funded through an Official Development Assistance loan from Japan with a 40-year, 0.1 percent interest per annum and a 12-year grace period.

The first batch of the ACUs has already been installed last August, the DOTr said.
