Newborn baby girl abandoned with umbilical cord attached to her

ILIGAN CITY—A newborn baby girl was found Wednesday yet abandoned at a village of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon province.

Maj. Donald Cordero, Malaybalay police chief, said residents saw the infant around 11 a.m. wrapped in black cloth and covered with taro leaf on the ground.

The baby’s cries caught the attention of residents.

Cordero, citing police investigators, said the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby.

“The blood is still fresh,” Cordero said by phone.

“The placenta and the umbilical cord are still attached to the baby. It was later cut in the hospital,” he added.

Despite the abandonment, the baby was healthy and had no wounds on her body.

The area where the baby was left was near boarding houses and a university.

The infant is now at a hospital in Malaybalay while police are coordinating with social workers for the child’s care.

Cordero said police would try to identify and locate the mother.
