SAN PEDRO CITY –– More than 7,800 police officers from the regional headquarters were deployed to man sports venues for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
The Calabarzon region will host sports events in 16 sites, making up the fourth cluster of the games’ venues spread across the country.
In South Luzon, various competitions will be held in the cities of Biñan and Sta. Rosa, and in Los Baños, Laguna; Calatagan in Batangas; and Imus City and Maragondon in Cavite.
Cycling competitions will start from Tagaytay City in Cavite to the towns of Nasugbu, Tuy, Lemery, Agoncillo, Balayan, Lian, Talisay, Calaca, and Laurel in Batangas.
Regional police chief Brigadier General Vicente Danao Jr. said they had yet to monitor any imminent threat to security, but “we shall not remain complacent (against) possible attacks from terrorist groups and other lawless elements during the conduct of the said event.”
Permits issued to civilians to carry firearms outside of their residences have also been suspended effective Nov. 20, following the formal “send-off” of security personnel.
The 30th SEA Games, hosted by the Philippines, will run from November 30 to December 11, with 9,840 athletes from 11 participating countries.
