Manila traffic enforcer fired over ‘kotong’ video

A member of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) was fired on Tuesday after he was seen on video reportedly receiving money from a motorist.

According to MTPB chief Dennis Viaje, the traffic enforcer was relieved for “engaging in ‘kotong.’”

The Manila Public Information identified the traffic enforcer as Modesto Tabion Tadeo Jr. who was previously assigned at the intersection of UN and Taft Avenues.

A video uploaded on social media showed Tadeo receiving money from a motorcycle rider and then returning the man’s license seconds later.

The video went viral after another MTPB enforcer, Adrian Lim, was made a regular employee after he was harassed by a driver he had cited for a traffic violation.

In a statement, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said he was disappointed that despite the city government’s efforts to instill discipline in its personnel, there were still scalawags within the ranks.—NIKKA G. VALENZUELA
