MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture is appealing to the public to eat fruits that are grown in the country, which are better in taste and quality compared to imported fruits, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said Thursday.
Agriculture assistant secretary Salvador Salacup was quoted in the report as saying that it would be a big help to the Filipino farmers truggling due to the continuous selling of imported or smuggled fruits.
The Department of Agriculture inspected the prices of fruits in Divisoria market in Manila earlier ahead of the expected increase in demand for fruits as the New Year’s Eve celebration approaches.
Salacup promoted the fruits Melon, Watermelon, Mango, Banana, and Guava.
He was also quoted as saying that imported fruits could have contaminations that may cause sickness, the report said.
