MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Ramon (International name: Kalmaegi) has maintained its strength while closing in on the eastern side of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.
Pagasa said Ramon, last located 285 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran in Aurora, still packs maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 80 kph as it moves west at a speed of 15 kph.
As of 5:00 p.m., the state weather bureau’s weather bulletin said, Cagayan province including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Isabela, the northern portion of Aurora, particularly Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1.
“Today, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela,” Pagasa said in a statement.
“Tomorrow (Monday), light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may be experienced over Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga and Ilocos Norte. Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over the Babuyan Islands, Abra, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Northern Aurora, and Quirino,” it added.
Residents in the low-lying and landslide-prone areas of the bove-mentioned provinces were advised to stay tuned for weather updates and take precautionary measures such as coordinating with local disaster risk reduction and management offices.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said it is monitoring a new low-pressure area (LPA) some 2,210 kilometers east of Visayas. It said the latest LPA may be expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday.
Pagasa nevertheless warned against sea travel, especially for small sea crafts planning to leave the shores of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.
