Fire in Tondo reaches 5th alarm

MANILA, Philippines – A fire on Nicolas Zamora Street in Tondo, Manila on Sunday night is now on the fifth alarm, the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) said.

MPIO’s tweet showed that most of the buildings affected by the fire are residential areas along the area.  According to Manila’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), the fire started around 6:24 p.m.

Under the fifth alarm, the area’s fire district chief is manning the operations and is instructed to assess whether there is a further need to elevate the status in the Task Force levels.

In case of a Task Force level, the Regional Director will handle the operations and decides if there is a need to elevate further, ultimately into a general alarm.
