Day care children showcase talents

AROUND 200 children from the different day care centers in Central Visayas recently competed in the singing, folk dancing and draw-and-tell regional contests initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the SM City Cebu Event Center.

Danao City won first prize in the folk dance category, followed by Cebu City at second and Toledo City, third.

For the singing category, Bogo City placed first, followed by Bayawan City and Toledo City, third place.

For the draw-and-tell category, the municipality of Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental got the first prize, followed by Garcia Hernandez in Bohol, second prize and Dumaguete City in Negros Orienta, third prize.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Local Council for the protection of children, para sa bright child: Pakilusin, palakasin, pagtulungan natin” hopes to raise public awareness on the importance of the creation of the local or barangay councils for the protection of children as well as early childhood care and development.

The contest has been institutionalized by the DSWD field office for 20 years now to promote, protect and encourage participants to showcase their talents.

The first- to third-place winners in the draw and tell took home cash prizes of P3,500, P2,500 and P1,500. The rest of the contestants received P800 consolation prizes.

Prizes for the folk dance category were P8,000, first prize; P5,500, second prize and P3,500, third prize. Non-winners received P2,500 each as consolation prize.
