MANILA, Philippines — A 4.0 magnitude earthquake rocked a town in Cotabato province on Friday afternoon, state seismologists said.
In its initial earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor hit 12 kilometers (kms) southeast of Makilala, Cotabato at 4:34 p.m.
Tectonic in origin, the earthquake had a depth of 12 kms.
The earthquake was felt at Intensity V in Kidapawan City while Phivolcs recorded Instrumental Intensities with Intensity IV in Kidapawan City and Intensity I in Alabel, Saranagni and Koronadal City.
According to Phivolcs, no aftershocks and significant damage will be expected from the quake.
