Chest-deep floods swamp Romblon villages as Ramon passes by

SAN PEDRO CITY—Tropical Storm Ramon dumped a heavy volume of rain water on a town in Romblon province on Friday, Nov. 15, bringing waist to chest-deep floods.

At least three villages of Odiongan town—Tuburan, Dapawan and Bangon—were submerged in floodwater, according to the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office.

Edgar Solano, of the disaster management office, said heavy rains started around 3 a.m. causing streams and rivers to swell and spill over to main roads.

In a phone interview past noon, Solano said the flood had started to subside as weather slightly improved.

High tide also helped slow the river current, he said.

The local government enforced preemptive evacuation especially of residents in low-lying areas and along river banks.

There was no report of any casualty but residents of Tuburan reported losing their animals which were swept away by the flooding. Maricar Cinco/Edited by TSB
