Ramon gains strength, nears Luzon tropical storm

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Ramon maintained its strength and slow approach toward the Luzon mainland, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its 11a.m. weather bulletin, said Ramon was last spotted 420 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora or 460 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

Ramon packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 kph. 

The tropical storm was also spotted moving north-northwest slowly, Pagasa said. 

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 is up over the eastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Gattaran, Baggao and Peñablanca), eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan and Dinapigue), and northern Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran and Dinalungan).

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains are expected over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, Bicol region, Romblon, Panay Island and Cuyo Islands.

Ramon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday, Pagasa said.
