PMA, PNP asked to reserve slots for indigenous peoples

MANILA, Philippines — Cavite Rep. Abraham Tolentino has urged the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) and the Philippine National Police Academy to reserve 5 percent of slots in each new batch of recruits for indigenous peoples (IPs).

Members of indigenous groups “should also be given the chance to serve, protect and defend the country,” said Cavite Rep. Abraham Tolentino in filing House Bill No. 5334, or the proposed “Katutubong Tagapagtanggol Act of 2019.”

Tolentino said the bill bats for better representation among the IPs as future military and police officers.
