MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) will temporarily stop receiving applications for medical assistance starting Thursday, November 14.
Pagcor issued this announcement after an incident involving a couple that attempted to submit fake documents for “fictitious” medical cases in a move to defraud the agency.
“Pending the results of an on-going investigation to the case, the state-run gaming firm freezes its accommodation of requests for medical aid,” Pagcor said in a statement on Wednesday.
The suspects were arrested by elements of the Manila Police District (MPD) and are facing charges for falsification of public documents by a private individual and using false certificates.
“Pagcor likewise warns against all those who plan to do the same as it is employing meticulous measures to evaluate documents submitted to the agency for financial assistance,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, Senator Lito Lapid, chair of the Senate committee on games and amusement, said he hopes Pagcor would not stop the assistance program.
“Sana ay hindi ihinto ng Pagcor ang pagbibigay ng tulong medikal sa mga mamamayan nating mahihirap. Alam nating maraming natutulungan ang Pagcor sa programa nilang ito,” Lapid said in a statement.
